New Dragon Ball FighterZ Screenshots Show Ultra Instinct Goku vs. Jiren
Ultra Instinct Goku will be Dragon Ball FighterZ's second character released in the game's third season. His predecessor, Kefla, may have only arrived at the end of last month, but Bandai has already started promoting him.
Dragon Ball FighterZ's latest showcase for the character comes in the form of some new screenshots. Similar to how his reveal trailer handled him, the new images see Goku showing off his most powerful transformation against Universe 11's Jiren.
The screenshots consist of both old and new images. The older ones come from a previously released V-jump scan but now appear in higher quality. Twitter account Dragon Ball Hype did the honors of gathering them all up and displaying them in a five-tweet thread. Viewers will get to see Goku dodging attacks, utilizing his new fluid movements for physical strikes, and launching Kamehameha's that rival even Gogeta Blue's in size.
The images don't specify which ones show off Goku's normals and which ones show off his specials, but at the very least, it looks like glimpses of his level 3 can be made out. The first image of the first thread, for instance, references when Ultra Instinct Goku launches his final assault against Jiren after Jiren attacks his friends in the anime. And the size of the Kamehameha in the last image can only come from a level 3, especially when its compared to the Kamehameha waves in the other threads.
When exactly Ultra Instinct Goku will arrive remains a mystery, but a good guess would be May 9. In Japanese, the numbers "5" and "9" read as "Go" and "Ku," respectively, so many consider May 9 to be "Goku day." May 9 was also when GT Goku released last year to take his grand tour of the game, so the day has some credence. Some guess that he'll arrive sometime in early April, but the release of a full-length trailer for him seems more likely for that timeframe.
Regardless, it looks like Bandai Namco and Arc System Works will be doing more to showcase new characters in Season 3. In Season 2, it took months after the release of a new fighter before the next one received promotions - at least, it did after GT Goku's release. Hopefully, the same dry spells don't happen after Ultra Instinct Goku makes his debut, though, season 3 will introduce the least amount of characters to the game in comparison to the other two seasons, so dry spells may be inevitable.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
