NieR Replicant Remaster Announced by Square Enix | Game Rant

Square Enix announced a remaster for NieR: Replicant, the last-gen RPG that has built a cult following in the time since release. The updated version of the game will be available on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One.

While there are not a lot of details surrounding the NieR: Replicant announcement, the name confirms that this will be a remaster of the Japanese version of the game. Some may remember that the Western version was released under the name NieR: Gestalt and swapped the younger main character with an older father. That in and of itself should be appealing to fans of the game that only know the story as told from the perspective of Yonah's father and not her brother.

The NieR: Replicant announcement trailer reveals that Toy Logic is taking over for the now-defunct Cavia. Toy Logic isn't likely a name that most gamers are familiar with but the studio has helped work on ports for games like Dragon Age XI on 3DS and Evil Within on last-gen. So at the very least the developers have experience porting games to different hardware.

But the most important piece of the puzzle is NieR director Yoko Taro who will be involved with bringing the remaster to life along with some other key members of past NieR development teams. The announcement also promises some extra goodies for current fans of the series in the form some voice actors from NieR: Automata.

Since the release of NieR: Automata there has been a resurgence in interest amongst gamers for the other games in the Drakengard/NieR series and it appears Square Enix is looking to capitalize on that. At present, it's unclear how soon intrigued fans may be able to go hands-on with NieR: Replicant but there could be more news planned for summer (when E3 was supposed to happen).

NieR: Replicant will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
