Nioh 2: 10 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do In The Game
The highly anticipated action role-playing game Nioh 2,was recently released and it’s still one of the toughest games available on the market this year. In fact, it could rival even great and challenging games such as Sekiro or Bloodborne in terms of sheer difficulty! And as such, players - both new and old - will need to prepare themselves vehemently for the tasks to come.
Getting the right gear, knowing the proper buffs and debuffs needed to vanquish a foe, and even some other details hidden in the game will be needed. In this list, we'll be going over 10 things you didn't know you could do in Nioh 2, to help those just starting out and are a bit lost.
10 You Can Pause The Game
Something some new players don't know is that while hacking and slashing away at Yokai, they can actually pause the whole game. This can be done by hitting the touchpad on the PS4 controller to go into your menu, and then hitting the Options button on the controller.
This will completely halt the game, letting you catch your breath or strategize on your next move on the enemy, or for bathroom breaks while not avoiding any random enemy attack. Changing equipment and loadouts won't be possible, but it's all worth it for a little peace of mind.
9 You Can Earn Passive Bonuses From Soul Cores
Soul Cores are a new feature to Nioh 2 and can be acquired from each type of boss and enemy in the game. Once equipped, players will be able to use special Anima Infused attacks that cause some additional damage. One thing players might not figure out is that Soul Cores also include passive stat bonuses that strengthen the player.
These bonuses include a variety of offensive and defensive advantages, so players are advised to pick one the most suitable for them. These are a great help too, as with such an unforgiving game as Nioh; players will require all the help they can get.
8 You Can Use Feral Burst Counters
Another new feature from Nioh 2 is Burst Counters. Players may know these are used to interrupt Burst Attacks from enemies with heavy Ki damage (hence the counter in the name). What some players don't know, however, is that using a different Guardian Spirit will affect the type Burst Counters you make, causing them to become Feral.
Feral Burst Counters are really useful as they can counter just about any move from many different types of enemies. You can use this to blindside enemies using a Burst Attack from a long-range or get behind them for some bonus damage.
7 Your Secondary Weapons Can Earn Familiarity
Nioh 2 has this neat thing called Weapon Familiarity. This basically means that weapons most often used by players become stronger with the more time they're used. Something a lot of players won't know, however, is that when one places a weapon not being used in the secondary slot, it also gains familiarity.
This can be used once a weapon that shows potential for later is found but is not usable at the moment. It can be extremely helpful, especially to new fans trying to find their most compatible weapon type without losing damage at the same time.
6 You Earn Extra Skill Points From Dojo Missions
Dojo missions are the game's way of training new players in Nioh, and though experienced players who've gone through the game without playing these, or players who've already played the original Nioh will still need to complete these missions to get specific skills locked behind them.
That being said, skipping these missions is not advised for those who want to earn some extra skill points. Doing this albeit tedious task has its own reward as well. In Nioh, every skill learned can be used to defeat even some specific bosses, so players are advised to gain as much as they can.
5 You Can Reset Your Skill Points
A handy and always lifesaving feature of some games is the option that allows players to redo their leveling for whatever reason, whether this is a result of the player just changing their minds or their desire to rectify a horrible mistake. It's a good thing, then, that the developers of Nioh also added this feature, as having progressed the main missions and unlocking the Blacksmith.
In fact, players can then purchase the Book of Reincarnation from them for 10,000 Gold. Doing this will reset all your skill points and Amrita used when leveling up, allowing you to make a different build or set things right.
4 You Can Easily Build Up Your Ninjutsu & Onmyo Magic Skill Points
One of Nioh's returning features is Ninjutsu and Onmyo Magic, which is subjectively one of the most useful Ninjutsu. It's often used for poisoning foes while Onmyo Magic is used for all types of buffs, such as defense health regen and so on. Sadly, these can easily be ignored by new players who aren't sure of how to utilize it.
This can be avoided, however, by gaining skill points in their respective trees by using Bombs, which helps build the Ninjutsu skill tree with skill points. Meanwhile, amulets help build the Onmyo skill tree. Doing this will make the player well versed pretty quickly.
3 You Can Recover Ki With Courage
Courage is one of the newest stat type introduced to Nioh 2. This stat can easily be overlooked by new players who focus their points on other stats, but Courage is quite useful for the simple fact that it can be used for Ki recovery.
The speed of Ki recovery is affected by how many points they pump into it. Ki recovery speed is useful for blocking, attacking, and evading attacks. It also helps when you don't have the handle on Ki pulse, so having a high courage stat definitely helps with that.
2 Your Choice Of Armor Determines Ki Resistance
There are different types of armor and depending on the player's tastes or needs. Players can choose between the heavy armor type (which significantly increases defense but reduces movement), medium armor (which provides an equal amount of mobility and defense) and the light armor (which has much less defense than the rest but provides a lot of mobility to the player).
The real important part, though, is toughness. Every armor, regardless of the type, has a specific amount of toughness. Having a high toughness stat means less Ki damage will be taken when blocking, giving the player more chances to attack and evade while surviving heavy attacks.
1 You Can Use Stealth Skills
To players who enjoy a stealthier approach, Nioh 2's got you covered. Once players unlock far enough into their skill trees, they'll unlock some stealth kill skills. Thing is, some players won't know this and go through the game without ever using it.
One of these stealth skills is the sneak attack, which can be used to deal double damage on unsuspecting foes. For a fast-paced game such as Nioh, having the option to take it slow is quite refreshing, especially killing an enemy before they realize you're even there.
