All WWE Wrestlers Released Due to the Coronavirus Cuts
Over the past week, WWE made a number of surprising and disappointing cuts to its roster. WWE cited economic conditions due to COVID-19 as the reason for the cuts, but fans have largely been disapproving. Nevertheless, many previous WWE stars are no longer with the company and fans may not be aware of all who've been removed.
The exact count of wrestlers who have been fired from WWE isn't exact. That's partly due to confusing contracts and it being unclear who all has been furloughed instead of let go. But for now, at least 20 WWE and NXT wrestlers have been cut, 9 producers have either been fired or furloughed, and an additional 4 wrestlers with developmental contracts have been cut.
Before any WWE fans begin panicking, virtually all of the main television stars for RAW, Smackdown, and NXT have been retained. There are definitely some surprises, like The OC members Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson who just performed in a popular Boneyard match with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania. But the list really speaks for itself:
Karl Anderson
Kurt Angle
Mike Chioda
EC3
Aiden English
Epico
Luke Gallows
Curt Hawkins
Maria Kanellis
Mike Kanellis
Sarah Logan
No Way Jose
Drake Maverick
Primo
Deonna Purrazzo
Erick Rowan
Rusev
Lio Rush
Zack Ryder
Heath Slater
Eric Young
Cut developmental wrestlers include Aleksandar Jaksic, MJ Jenkins, Alyssa Marino, and Dan Matha. It's entirely possible that even more wrestlers from across the company have been furloughed or fired but have chosen not to have it revealed publically.
While the necessity of WWE's cuts remains a matter of debate, it won't bring any of these wrestlers back into the company. Reports indicate that wrestling talent were provided severance pay of 1-3 months, but they're still out of work in the midst of a pandemic when virtually all wrestling promotions aren't running.
