Call of Duty: Warzone - 5 Features the Battle Royale Needs ASAP
The newly released Call of Duty: Warzone has been quickly taking the Battle Royale genre by storm, bringing the quality and notoriety of the Call of Duty series to the free-to-play format. However, as successful as it is, the game still has a long way to go before it can take the claim to fame as the the top title within the Battle Royale genre.
After all, Call of Duty: Warzone is still in Beta at the moment, and as such even Activision doesn't consider it finished yet. So, if the developers would like to see the game's eventual full launch reach its true potential as a mammoth of the industry, there are a few important features that some players would like to see join the game soon.
This is a feature that we've actually called out before, showing how Warzone should include LTMs, or Limited Time Modes. In reality, this goes well beyond 75v75, but goes on to generalize to other Battle Royale specific game modes, similar to the Plunder game mode.
While some might want to see this stick around forever, letting players who might be nervous to jump into a fight with a fairly high likelihood of getting wiped within minutes of their first confrontation. Giving players an absolutely massive team to have their back, along with an equally massive team to chip away at, just sounds like the inevitable evolution of Team Deathmatch.
Rotating Parties is one that Warzone needs as soon as possible if the game doesn't want to turn regular players of the base game's multiplayer player base. The real problem comes with the three player limit on parties looking to join up in-game, meaning that players have to split up into small groups when squading up with friends.
One solution, while possibly not the most elegant, would be to allow parties to let in more than three players and either relegating the other players to spectate their friends, or play on a separate team in another game. If the system were to also automatically rotate players in and out of the different teams, then it could possibly make playing with larger groups of friends a little easier without anyone having to feel left out.
The custom loadouts have been a spot of contention for some fans, with high profile players like Shroud condemning Warzone early on due to how the way that customized weapons break the game's balance. However, especially in the case of LTMs, leaning on that imbalance could possibly break the game until it comes full circle.
This wouldn't be a feature that many would want to see coming to the base Battle Royale or solo modes of Warzone, but with all the effort players put into building the best loadouts, it would be rewarding to utilize them in the game mode. Loadouts are already utilized in Plunder at the moment, but adding it to a mode that more closely resembles the standard Battle Royale could remove a level of randomness from the game and add a competitive edge to a separate game mode.
Considering how important playing with squads are in Warzone, with the standard mode setting players up into three player parties, teamwork is a core mechanic of the game. However, even though players can drop armor and ammo for their squadmates, it's still impossible to drop a powerful weapon that might be better in the hands of an ally without having an extra weapon on the ground to pass between.
This wouldn't feel like such a problem to fans, if it wasn't already a prevellant feature in games like Fortnite and Apex Legends, which Warzone is often compared too. At the moment, this is lower on the tier list of necessary features, but would go a long way towards keeping longtime players of the genre focused on this latest Battle Royale for longer than a simple flash in the pan.
Last and most certainly not least comes one of the most highly requested features that Call of Duty: Warzone needs, a report button. This is even more important when considering that the game is currently offering crossplay between systems, meaning that players on consoles may have to go up against PCs with easier access to mods and hacks.
As a result of not being able to properly report cheaters, Activision and the players are handcuffing themselves in the struggle against hackers using aimbots to steal wins from honest players. Simply adding a feature to allow players to report when they see these hacks in action, something that spectating makes fairly easy, can limit the reach of these hackers.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One
