Capone Movie With Tom Hardy Gets Trailer and Release Date

With the coronavirus pandemic having shut down public gatherings, movie theater chains like AMC have filed for bankruptcy and distributors have pivoted to streaming and video on demand. Thus is the case for Capone, a film about American gangster Al Capone starring Tom Hardy that had its official trailer released by Vertical Entertainment Thursday.

The film, written and directed by Josh Trank of Chronicle (2012) fame and Fantastic Four (2015) infamy, focuses on "the untold story" of Capone later in his life. Trank has announced on Twitter the day before that "my cut" of the movie will be coming out May 12, and later said "planned as theatrical, but hopefully will be on the big screen later this year!"

Tom Hardy's performance in the trailer is undoubtedly its biggest selling point for those who aren't history buffs, as the actor has gained lots of clout in movies from Inception and Mad Max: Fury Road to Venom.

It's unclear when movie theaters will be re-opened in the United States, but it could be as soon as two weeks given the Trump Administration's new federal guidelines. Until then, watching films like Capone from home is the way to practice safe social distancing.

Capone will be released May 12 on streaming.
