Complete Call of Duty: Warzone SKS Sniper Rifle Breakdown
The SKS is one of two new weapons added to Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare as a part of saason 3, obtained for free after reaching tier 31 in the battle pass. In both base Modern Warfare and in Warzone's battle royale, the SKS is a great weapon to have on hand. It is arguably one of the best guns in the DMR class and has enough customization options to make it work for anyone's playstyle. This breakdown will cover all the best attachments and setup options to make the most of the SKS in battle royale.
Even though Warzone and base Modern Warfare can be quite different, the SKS is one of the several powerful weapons that can overlap between the two. That's because instead of excelling in one area at the expense of others, it excels in several areas with very few sacrifices. Without body armor, the SKS can take down an enemy in a single headshot or just two body shots, and is serviceable from relatively close ranges out to sniping distances.
Both the SKS and the Renetti pistol instantly became two of the best weapons in Modern Warfare as of Season 3. The Renetti is powerful because of its 3-round burst capability, but the SKS is so useful because it's an all-rounder that can serve in many areas at once. The gun has a very rapid rate of fire for a DMR, little recoil, a quick ADS time, respectable magazine capacity, and incredible customization options.
The SKS has versatility almost on par with an AK or M4A1, but the best thing about its customization is that it doesn't lose out on much even when totally transformed one way or the other. For example, an SKS modded to have the fastest possible ADS time for quick-scoping will still have pretty low recoil, while one modded for maximum accuracy and damage range will still have a usable level of mobility. In use, the SKS feels snappy, accurate, reliable, and powerful, a perfect combination for a great-feeling gun in any FPS. While the SKS can be totally transformed into a quick-scoping, one-tapping machine, the best builds for Warzone will take full advantage of its well-rounded range.
There are a few attachments that strongly benefit the SKS when coming up with an ideal build for one's playstyle. Optics are largely up to taste, but a variable zoom or flip hybrid will take full advantage of the SKS's medium- to long-range prowess. A monolithic suppressor is the only real choice for muzzle attachments, especially with Warzone's emphasis on range and stealth. For mobility, the Commando foregrip is the best, but a bipod provides a huge bonus to control when crouched or prone.
The FTAC Landmark barrel is the most balanced option, but it's hard to go wrong. In Warzone though, the 16" barrel reduces damage range too much to be viable. The standard magazine size for the SKS is 20 rounds, which most of the time is plenty. A 30-round mag isn't really worth losing an attachment slot, and mobility is already good enough that 10-round mags are a terrible sacrifice to make for a bit more handling speed. In stocks, the SKS Rifle stock and FTAC Hunter Scout stock are both viable choices, but the sawed-off stock will only be optimal for close-quarters quick-draw contests. There is practically no reason to attach a laser to the SKS, but there is one option nonetheless.
A super speedy gunslinging build for the SKS would include a 16" FSS Para barrel, 10-round mags, sawed-off stock, laser, and an optic or underbarrel of choice, but a build like that would be largely useless in Warzone. The strength of the SKS is that it can compete with other powerful DMRs and snipers, not SMGs and shotguns. Even in Modern Warfare, a build like that would largely miss the point of the gun.
An ideally balanced SKS would look more like this: 4X flip optic, Monolithic suppressor, FTAC Landmark barrel, Commando foregrip, and FTAC Hunter scout stock. For a long-range version, a variable zoom optic for 3X to 7X magnification, a 22" FSS barrel, a bipod, and SKS Rifle stock plus the same Monolithic suppressor would allow the SKS to compete admirably with sniper rifles and still do decent work up close. A balanced setup will be best for racking up kills in solo games, but a long-range build would be better suited to playing the sniper role in a larger team.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
