Disney+ Passes Impressive Subscriber Milestone | Game Rant

When Disney+ launched in November 2019, many believed it would be an incredible success, but few could have predicted just how successful Disney+ would be in such a short time. A new announcement from Disney has confirmed that the streaming service now has over 50 million subscribers.

The announcement comes as Disney+ expands to 12 new regions, including the UK and several European countries. It's been a long wait for those territories, who have had to see all of The Mandalorian memes online while having no access to the show. Their sign-ups assuredly pushed Disney+ over the 50 million threshold.

Disney hasn't provided consistent updates about its viewership, but compared to past info, the jump to 50 million is extremely impressive. It hit over 10 million subscribers in 24 hours after Disney+'s launch. It took until early February for Disney+ to reach just short of 30 million. That means that its gained another 20+ million subscribers in just over the past two months.

For comparison's sake, Disney+ is now well ahead of the service's sister streaming platform Hulu, which is near to 30 million. Disney+ likely still has some work to do to gain on Amazon, HBO, and Netflix. Both Amazon and HBO have subscribers well above 100 million, though the amount of people using their digital streaming platforms isn't clear or necessarily comparable. Netflix is known to have almost 170 million subscribers. Disney+ may be far off now, but it's catching up quickly.
