Injured Resident Evil Movie Stuntwoman Wins Lawsuit | Game Rant
In September of last year, reports broke out about a stuntwoman who sued the producers of the Resident Evil film franchise after suffering serious injuries while on-set. During the filming of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, stuntwoman Olivia Jackson met an unfortunate accident during a failed motorcycle stunt on-set that left her in a coma for 17 days and resulted in an arm amputation. Now, it has been reported that Jackson successfully won her lawsuit against the movie producers.
A South African court ruled in favor of the stunt performer citing that the stunt that caused the accident was "negligently planned and executed" by the production company. It is worth noting that prior to the ruling in Jackson's favor, the legal team of director/producer Paul Anderson initially asked for the court to dismiss Jackson's case because she is apparently "suing the wrong people in the wrong place." Luckily for the stunt performer, the judge tossed out the claim against her, specifically the part that her motorcycle riding skills were partially to blame for the accident.
After the ruling, Jackson's representatives released a statement highlighting that any action movie that requires people to perform dangerous stunts should always "be carefully planned and performed." Additionally, they also raised the issue that movie studios should ensure stunt actors are always backed by insurance "that can meet the very significant life-long losses that could be incurred by any member of the cast and crew who is seriously injured."
The accident that seriously injured Olivia Jackson occurred during the filming of the 2016 film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
