NFL Mobile Game in the Works with Promise of 'Deep Gameplay'
San Francisco-based mobile developer and publisher Nifty Games announced Wednesday it has secured more than $12 million in Series A financing, as well as a partnership with the National Football League (NFL) and National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) to create its first game, NFL Clash. This appears to be one of many big moves by the NFL, which recently made a deal with 2K Games.
According to Nifty Games, NFL Clash will be an "innovative" title with "fast, yet deep" gameplay specifically designed for head-to-head matches on mobile devices. Rachel Hoagland, VP Head of Gaming and Esports for the NFL, said, "We've looked to bolster our offering on mobile devices and are thrilled at the built-for-mobile clash-style gaming that Nifty Games will deliver."
Based on this information, players can likely expect a title similar to Clash of Clans, or the bevy of similar games that have come out in its wake. However not much has been announced as far as what sports-specific mechanics will make NFL Clash unique.
Nifty Games' announcement comes as organizations like Major League Baseball (MLB) have begun hosting online tournaments in video games like MLB The Show 20 to help raise money for coronavirus relief.
NFL Clash is currently in development for mobile devices.
