Valorant Bans First Cheater During Closed Beta | Game Rant

Online shooters are some of the most popular multiplayer games today, but with that popularity comes cheaters and hackers looking to ruin everyone else's fun. Plenty of shooters have had to deal with them, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Apex Legends, and now Valorant, even before its official release date.

Upcoming first-person shooter Valorant just started its closed beta a little while ago, and already Riot Games has announced that it had to ban its first cheater. However, the lead of Riot's anti-cheat team has stated that they are ready to fight the cheaters.

The news came from Riot Games' programmer and Anti-Cheat Lead Paul Chamberlain on Twitter, noting that not only was this the first ban, but that it looked like more bans would be "on the horizon." As surprising as it may be to see cheaters popping up as early as the closed beta, Chamberlain remains confident that he and his team are ready for them. That's good news for fans, as part of the hype surrounding Valorant was the developer's promise of a world-class anti-cheat system. Catching and banning a cheater this early just proves how effective the upcoming game's anti-cheat really is.

Anti-cheat is something that many online shooters tend to struggle with, particularly Valorant's primary rival Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. CS:GO's anti-cheat has become infamous for allowing many blatant cheaters to slip through the cracks and ruin the game for honest players.

As popular as that game may be with eSports players and regular fans, word of the constant and growing presence of cheaters over the years has discouraged many new players from joining the game. A truly effective anti-cheat may be the edge Valorant needs to beat out the competition, and might be enough to make fans forget that it won't have a ranked mode at launch.

Though the beta has only been out for a few days, Valorant has already become incredibly popular on Twitch. Since the very first day of the beta, many streamers have dropped their usual games to try out the new shooter. It's little wonder why, since a new IP from the company behind League of Legends was always going to draw in a large crowd. However, it's the intriguing hybrid of hero shooter mechanics combined with the tactical gameplay of Counter-Strike that's really piqued gamers' interest.

Valorant is set to be released on PC in the summer of 2020. The closed beta started on April 7th.
