Watch Toto's 'Africa' Played With Animal Crossing: New Horizons Instruments
Whether people just have a natural affinity for creativity or the coronavirus causing many to stay at home has sparked a rise in ingenuity and resourcefulness, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has given tons of players an outlet for their talents. The most recent development to come from that joyous island is a cover of 'Africa' by Toto made with in game instruments.
The cover can be found below, and sees the maximum of eight people on an Animal Crossing: New Horizons island all working together to recreate the meme-like song. The video is truly a pleasure to watch and listen to, and helps to bring a much needed laugh or smile.
It's worth noting that instruments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are only capable of playing one pitch, so this version of the video is edited to make it actually sound like the song. Just how much it is edited will likely be a huge surprise, though. Those wanting to hear the video without editing can click the link below the video.
In total, the clip is about 1 minute and 36 seconds, and the edit shows the creator's impressive skill with music editing software as well as their determination to the cause. The wonderful thing about this type of project is that all of it was likely done in self-isolation so as to not break social distancing rules. In fact, Twitter user Mako Ray and creator of this video goes into further detail about the creation process on their Twitter account, and the method they used has led many to applaud this accomplishment even further.
Mako Ray explains that all eight characters seen on the screen are actually their character dressed up in different outfits in eight separate instances. Mako Ray recorded each character playing the parts separately, edited the pitches to match the appropriate key, melodies, and harmonies, and then combined all the videos together into one take. Since the background is static and doesn't change, this technique actually works to create quite the impressive illusion.
Mako Ray has referred to the wonderful video as 'Toto Africa: 5th Grade Band Edition' and ''Africa' by Toto but it's a bunch of Animal Crossing villagers doing their best', and both of these titles seem fitting. It's only a matter of time before another wacky, creative, and super fun idea surfaces from the Animal Crossing community, so fans would do well to keep an eye out.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
