Assassin's Creed Valhalla Hidden Rune Code Solved | Game Rant
Assassin's Creed Valhalla has just been revealed for a few days, but the mysteries are already beginning to pile up. Somehow, both male and female Eivor are canon, yet Ubisoft stopped short of explaining how. Social Stealth is returning but with an unspecified twist. And another mystery has been the runes scattered across the official AC: Valhalla website.
It was first discovered by Twitter user Cristophorus who then decided to extract the whole image of runes for translation. Of course, it's not like Norse runes is a simple translation to English, so Cristophorus had to enlist the help of the Assassin's Creed Reddit community, namely u/crimsonfox24 and u/Gapthrosnir. Together, the community was able to decipher the hidden code, and as it turns out, the Assassin's Creed Valhalla code is from a famous poem attributed to Odin.
It's stanza or verse 77 derived from "Havamal - Sayings of the High One," with the English translation being, "Cows die, kinsmen die, so must die oneself the same. But I know one thing that never dies, each dead man's judgement." Although this is a cool nod to Odin, it's not the first. Odin is mentioned in the Assassin's Creed Valhalla reveal trailer, with many believing the hooded figure who seemingly turns into a raven is Odin himself.
That would potentially mean Odin is a traveling companion to Eivor in AC Valhalla, taking Odin Sight (redubbed from Eagle Vision) quite literally. How exactly this quote ties into Odin and the game remains to be seen, but its focus is on death. The translators seem to think that it may be related to Assassin's Creed Valhalla's settlement system, which may evaluate Eivor's performance after death. This would make sense given the "each dead man's judgement" in some vein, but at the same time, that would imply Eivor's death occurs in-game (not a normal occurrence for an AC game).
It could also mean less than many are looking into, and it just serves as another tease of Odin's importance to the story. Of course, it all remains to be seen, and Odin's full role in Assassin's Creed Valhalla isn't likely to be explored before it releases.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla releases Holiday 2020 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
