EA Will Release 14 Games During Fiscal Year 2021 | Game Rant
Although there is a lot of uncertainty regarding just how many games will release in 2020 (and beyond), Electronic Arts feels confident that it will have plenty of software to offer its diverse group of fans. In its latest earnings call, the Battlefield and Madden publisher revealed that it plans to release 14 games before the end of its fiscal year.
Like most gaming companies, Electronic Arts' fiscal year ends in March 2021, so the publisher does have plenty of time to ship its products. EA also has a very robust mobile division that will bolster these numbers, along with plans to port some existing titles to the Switch. Realistically, the 14-game number is not as surprising considering the circumstances.
Among the 14 game releases for 2020, EA plans to have its usual complement of EA Sports titles including Madden and FIFA. It's unclear if those games will also make the jump to next-gen platforms PS5 and Xbox Series X, but EA typically supports new hardware with its annual titles. Those next-gen ports don't always fully take advantage of the new technology, but they do offer fans a chance to play their favorite franchise on their new console.
Outside of a handful of Switch ports (Burnout Paradise was mentioned by name), Electronic Arts has one HD game planned for release. This unannounced title could be from a number of different franchises, but there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding it. Some believe that it could be the next Battlefield game, but EA already confirmed that Battlefield 6 would not release in 2020.
A new game from BioWare is also highly unlikely given the turmoil facing the Anthem team – who is hoping to reboot the game at some point – and the uncertainty surrounding the next Dragon Age. The BioWare team could surprise fans, but last that they heard the game was still working out a lot of core concepts.
Assuming that Battlefield is not in the cards, it's possible that EA's new HD game is one of its smaller titles, similar to Unravel or A Way Out. EA typically has at least one of these games on offer every year and the company has yet to reveal what will fill that role.
Electronic Arts should have more to say about most or all of its upcoming games as part of its EA Play 2020 event. While there will not be an on-site installation for EA Play this year due to current guidelines, the company still plans to stream the event in June. The all-digital version of EA Play will take place on June 11, 2020.
