Original Resident Evil Remade in Resident Evil 4 is Surprisingly Legit

The Resident Evil series is a staple in horror games. Through good times and bad, fans of the series continue to stick with the games and have been rewarded with a series of remakes, plus a new title including one of the scariest moments in gaming.

The remakes began with the new Resident Evil 2 and continued with Resident Evil 3. Now fans wonder if there will soon be a remake of the already spectacular Resident Evil 4, often considered to be the crown jewel in the Resident Evil series.

While most fans continue to speculate what a Resident Evil 4 remake would look like, some look further back. A fan named Mr. Curious is in the process of creating Resident Evil Remix, a remix of Resident Evil. The catch is that it re-imagines Resident Evil with Resident Evil 4's gameplay and mechanics, replacing the tanky controls and fixed camera with an over-the-shoulder view and quicker gameplay. While not yet finished, Remix is actually very close to being done, possibly within a year.

Although the mod is a long time in the making, its remixing method is now tried and true. Both the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes took many notes from Resident Evil 4. While these games may not be as overly gruesome as RE 7 or the upcoming RE 8, their scares and creativity are still fantastic. In each case, the Resident Evil 4 approach enhanced the experience and made it better.

Players who experience Resident Evil for the first time through the remix may find it set apart from its sequels. The entire game is confined to a single, expansive mansion, and is a slow-burn puzzler. There are no overpowered RE weapons like the Chicago Typewriter to be found, so players must be cautious with ammo and herbs. If the Remix carries the same strengths as the original, it will provide a fascinating, creepy beginning to Umbrella Corps' history.

The mod also comes with bonus content adapted from the original game. There are additional secrets and, perhaps, extra areas in the mansion. In addition, the opening cutscene of Resident Evil seems to be fully playable, complete with AI teammates. Resident Evil Remix is another in a long line of fan-tributes to the RE series, especially when it comes to mods. Other examples include a Dino Crisis mod for the Resident Evil 3 remake, which is the closest to a new Dino Crisis game anyone will see for a while.
