Pong Battle Royale Updated with New Features | Game Rant
As ridiculous as the concept sounded, Nintendo's Switch Online-exclusive title Tetris 99 — a battle royale version of the classic puzzle game — became a big hit on Twitch soon after it released. It only makes sense that others would tackle similar subjects, as has Meaty Ore Games with its Pong-based battle royale Balls Royale.
Balls Royale was released on Steam in early April for $1.99, the work of a single developer who goes by Enignum on Reddit. The game sticks 50 players in a circle and gives each a small amount of space to move back-and-forth so they can reflect various balls out toward other players and power-ups that spawn in the center.
Like in other battle royale titles such as Activision's Call of Duty: Warzone, the circle of play in Balls Royale gets smaller as more players are eliminated. Enignum went on a binge of posting about his game on various subreddits earlier today after pushing out an update that has added an in-game chat and the ability to join a queue for new games while spectating a previous match.
As one of the earliest video games ever created, Pong has a lasting impact on popular culture, as seen with recent indie titles like Balls Royale and Atari's RPG Pong Quest.
Balls Royale is available now on Steam.
