Rumor: Mass Effect Trilogy Remaster Is in the Works | Game Rant
The Mass Effect franchise may currently be on hiatus, with Electronic Arts deciding it'd be best to take a break from the sci-fi action RPG franchise after the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda. Yet that doesn't seem to have impacted fans' excitement for all things Normandy and Shepard. If fans can't have a new Mass Effect game for a few more years, they ask why not make a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster? Fans may be onto something, if recent claims are to be believed.
During a recent earnings call, Electronic Arts confirmed that one of its studios is currently working on an HD remaster. No information about this HD remaster was officially provided, be it name or franchise, unfortunately, and fans were left to speculate. However, this HD remaster is reportedly the Mass Effect Trilogy.
VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb made the claim that the HD remaster that was confirmed by Electronic Arts is the Mass Effect Trilogy. In his article about EA's financial call, Grubb nonchalantly stated that the two were one and the same. The claim had no sources cited or supporting evidence provided, which puts it firmly in the rumor territory.
While there's no firm evidence that a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster is in development, there have been hints that it may be in the works previously. BioWare social media has in the recent past made cryptic references to Mass Effect just in recent months. While the hashtag MassRelays ended up referring to a music series, that hasn't slowed speculation about BioWare building to some new Mass Effect news.
Perhaps the most persuasive argument that a Mass Effect Trilogy is being made is just how obvious a decision it would be. Mass Effect remains an incredibly popular franchise and the original trilogy is beloved, even with Mass Effect 3's controversial ending. There's also a generation shift in consoles coming up, making for a great opportunity to get the trilogy into the hands of a wave of new players.
Until BioWare makes an official announcement, the existence of a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster is a rumor at best. Fans won't have to wait too long to find out the truth, as EA's HD remaster was confirmed for the current Fiscal Year. It should launch before March 2021, so an announcement should be coming in the months ahead. Hopefully, that news is coming sooner or later.
