Rumor: New Batman Game Leak Says It'll Be Revealed Sooner Than You Think
As part of the currently changing dynamic of the game industry, games are set to trickle out over the summer, culminating at Gamescom in August. Inside Xbox was the first entry of this new initiative, dubbed the Summer Game Fest, which actually has a new reveal coming on Tuesday, May 12, at 9 AM PT/ 11 AM CT. And if this latest rumor is to believed, the new reveal is going to be the long-rumored soft reboot of the Batman Arkham series.
Looking at the purported leaker, there's little reason to believe them at face value. Not only is it posted on 4chan, where nothing should be believed, but it also does little more than add more than a date to what's already being said about the next Batman game. Stranger things have happened than a random 4chan leak being proved correct, though.
According to the leaker, the new Batman game will be announced on May 12, will be a general story reboot, will not adapt the Arkham title, and more or less throws out everything from the Arkham series as a result. There is an open-world Gotham City where players can explore, and it'll be a PC and next-gen release. The leaker also shoehorns in that Mark Hamill will not be the Joker.
There's a good chance that this is all made up, building off the confirmation of a May 12 game reveal. However, looking at it further, there's a couple of strange coincidences. First, it's worth mentioning that big titles like PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam are taking part of the Summer Game Fest, as well as big third-party publishers like Activision, Bethesda, CD Projekt Red, EA, WB Games, Square Enix, and more. WB Games could be announcing any number of things, like the Harry Potter RPG, but kicking off Summer Game Fest with a big title like Batman would be uplifting, especially after Inside Xbox.
The biggest thing is the code name of the reveal; the event is titled Sunrise #1. Sunrise is actually a Japanese animation studio that has worked on the Batman: Animated Series in the past. Of course, this is still tinfoil hat territory and confirms nothing, perhaps even being entirely coincidental. In the same vein, Sunrise could be tied to Batman: Arkham Knight's ending and the hope of a new day, while at the very same time, it could be anything.
It'll be interesting to see if this pans out or what comes on May 12 regardless. At the very least, it won't be long to see if these Batman rumors prove to be true or is just yet another fake leak.
