Square Enix is Giving Away Branded Face Masks, But There's a Catch

2020 has been something of a rollercoaster ride, with the coronavirus pandemic fundamentally shifting day to day life. That's led to face masks being an essential accessory for those journeying out into public, and a fair share of branded versions being sold online. Popular video game developer Square Enix is now giving away masks, but fans will have to drop a pretty penny to get one.

An advertisement from Square Enix's website has been circulating online, showing a black face mask with the Square Enix logo on it. The face mask is available to Square Enix members that spend more than $100 on the Square Enix store, but also stirring up a bit of a conversation online. There doesn't seem to be outrage over the mask, as some might expect, but just general head-scratching.

The mask was first surfaced on ResetEra, with users on the thread primarily commenting on how odd it is, especially the "boost your vitality +1" bit. There are some that are baffled about the $100 minimum to receive the mask, which is fair, as its a tad bit ridiculous of a pricepoint. Others have pointed out how absurd the entire situation is.

Those that want to pick up their own mask can do so from now until May 25th, according to the advertisement. Of course, the mask really isn't that much of an incentive to buy anything, considering the investment it takes. At most, it's a way to remember one of the strangest times in modern history, but that may not be a great thing when all is said and done.

Coronavirus has delayed movies, games, and led to the cancelation of pretty much every large gathering, throwing a wrench in conventions like E3 and SDCC. It still isn't clear when the issues will start to clear up, leading to doubt about any event scheduled between now and next year, and in some cases, even beyond that.

Hopefully, the situation is resolved soon. The coronavirus pandemic has put a strain on nearly every facet of everyday life, causing a sharp toll on people and companies throughout the world. For now, the best anyone can do is stay home and play games, which should help speed up recovery.
