Twitch Adds New Moderation Option For Streamers | Game Rant

In spite of recent controversy, Twitch is the largest name in online streaming for gamers, and it has made some updates recently to try to make it a much more friendly place to stream. But one change was made early in May that has created a lot of buzz on Twitter: the ability to turn off clips.

Twitch users have been able to take clips of their favorite streamers, grabbing small samples of any stream to share with users. This allowed people to find funny clips and discover new streamers. It also allowed fans to save favorite moments, like watching a blindfolded streamer bowl a perfect game while blindfolded. But not all uses of the clip have been wholesome, which prompted Twitch to allow streamers to turn the function off.

The ability to turn clips on and off for streamers is both a boon and burden. While some changes have been very popular, like the addition of eSports to Twitch's directory, this one seems to have some viewers divided. While many Twitch users are glad that female streamers can finally stop viewers from clipping them every time they stand up, there are some that think these tools are too broad. "There just needs to be better moderation tools," says@RiizmOnTwitch. "Like can partners ban a single person from MAKING clips?"

While this seems like a great start for Twitch, streamers and their mods just need better tools overall. Turning off clips on Twitch turns off clips for everyone, including mods and the streamer themselves. Twitch is constantly updating its guidelines and tools to make the site better for streamers, but they have a long way to go to make it a safer space for them, especially female streamers.
