Bill and Ted 3 Delayed | Game Rant
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused problems all across the entertainment industry, with some films being put out digitally or being delayed as public gathering places like movie theaters remain closed. Christopher Nolan's Tenet was delayed by Warner Bros. a second time this week, and its new August 12 release date has caused problems for MGM's Bill and Ted Face the Music.
While the new Bill and Ted movie, reuniting Keanu Reeves and Alex Winters after 30 years, was originally set to release on August 14, MGM announced Friday it will now premiere on August 28 to avoid competing against the Nolan film according to Variety. Though this means fans will have to wait longer, it does also put the movie out closer to its prequel Dark Horse comic series coming out in September.
The upcoming sequel has been met by an overall positive response from fans of the original movies and of Keanu Reeves — who since the original Bill and Ted films has had quite the career resurgence thanks to projects like John Wick. He will also be serving a major role as Johnny Silverhand in CD Projekt Red's upcoming role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077.
It makes sense for MGM to try and avoid competing with Nolan's Tenet, as that movie will likely suck all the oxygen out of an already-restricted opening period. Theater chains like AMC are just beginning to reopen, and have run into concerns about making the environment safe through proper social distancing and requiring masks.
Bill and Ted Face the Music is set to release on August 28, 2020.
