Destiny 2: Iron Banner Returns With Reprised Weapons and New Perks
As Bungie's popular looter-shooter Destiny 2 moves toward big new things starting with the Beyond Light expansion in September, the current Season of Arrivals is seeing a steady stream of content. In today's "This Week At Bungie" update, the developer announced that the first Season of Arrivals Iron Banner will be starting at 10:00 a.m. PDT on June 30, offering players a newly curated weapon pool with unique perks.
The Iron Banner is a PvP Crucible event that has consistently reappeared in limited-time intervals since the original Destiny, and in its latest iteration lasting until 10:00 a.m. PDT on July 7, there will be eight weapons for players to go after. Six are "reissued" weapons: The Shining Sphere, Swarm of the Ravens, Talons of the Eagle, Bite of the Fox, Orewing's Maul, and Crimil's Dagger; and two will be "reprised" weapons: The Forward Path and The Fool's Remedy.
The reissued weapons will have max infusion caps for the Season of Arrival, while the reprised Iron Banner weapons will have two additional perks. "Iron Grip" will improve weapon stability at the cost of reload speed, and "Iron Gaze" will improve target acquisition at the cost of range. Players can also unlock armor, but Destiny 2's newest offerings are a reprise of the Iron Fellowship set with a new emblem.
Bungie says that, "The event will work similar to last Season," and players can also receive bonus Valor if they play during the event period. However, one significant difference about this Iron Banner compared to previous offerings is that it will be the first since Destiny 2 removed skill-based matchmaking from most Crucible playlists earlier this month.
While the return of the Iron Banner is the most notable update provided by Bungie's weekly post, it does touch on a few other subjects. For one, it introduces players to the four items players can obtain as Twitch Prime rewards this month. The Black Lives Matter pin and emblem to raise money for the Equal Justice Initiative that the Bungie Foundation began selling pre-orders for Tuesday also gets a segment.
Before getting into subjects like the new Iron Banner, Bungie touched upon recent sexual assault allegations being levied against various Twitch streamers, YouTubers, and other members of the video game industry. It says these events reaffirm its commitment to enforce codes of conduct "on the platforms and channels we control," and that the developers will pledge their support to help make things better.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
