Destiny 2 Season 11 Iron Banner Quest is a Major Improvement
Destiny 2’s Iron Banner is back for Season of Arrivals and with it comes some new gear to collect. Technically, the gear is refreshed from past Destiny 2 seasons, but this time around there are new Iron Banner weapon perks to chase.
Another key change for Iron Banner this season is the way Bungie is handling the introductory quests. Rather than make Destiny 2 players go through a lengthy quest in order to unlock the new Iron Banner items, the new quest is fairly easy to complete and more importantly, it ties into the weapons available.
The new Iron Banner weapon quest in Destiny 2 is called Red Hot Iron and it seems to have mini-steps related to the weapons that will be available for each iteration of Iron Banner. For this month’s version, the two weapons to chase are The Forward Path auto rifle and The Fool’s Remedy sidearm.
As a result, the Old Reliables mini-step within Red Hot Iron involves getting kills in Iron Banner with those two weapon types. Players need only get 25 kills with auto rifles and 25 kills with Sidearms to complete Red Hot Iron – Old Reliables and unlock access to The Forward Path, The Fool’s Remedy, and the Iron Vendetta shader.
Considering how potent both weapon classes can be in Iron Banner, most Destiny 2 players shouldn’t have any trouble completing the Old Reliables quest step. Getting precision kills speeds up the progress towards the 25 kills as well, so accurate players can work towards the weapons even quicker.
The auto rifle portion should be the easiest to complete, as there are some really strong ones for PvP. Arguably the best PvP weapons in Destiny 2 right now is the Gnawing Hunger auto rifle reintroduced for Season of Arrivals. It’s fairly stable and shoots very fast, and is a perfect choice for completing the auto rifle quest step.
Sidearms are a bit more hit and miss in Crucible, but there are some strong options. Drang is a fast firing option that is strong with damage perks, and can be fun when prepared with the exotic hand cannon Sturm. Destiny 2 players can get a Drang sidearm from the Menagerie using their Chalice. If players held onto one, Breachlight is another popular option from Season of Dawn that shoots in a burst. And Last Hope is a great choice but is only a world drop and a little harder to acquire.
Unlike past Iron Banner iterations, this introductory quest does not prevent players from turning in Tokens and unlocking armor. Bungie received a lot of feedback based on its implementation of Iron Banner quests and restrictions and it seems the developers have zeroed in on a focused approach. It makes sense to do a small quest step to unlock access to the weapons, but those who just want armor can pursue those drops right out of the gate.
Hopefully, this change to Iron Banner is just a small sign of Bungie’s willingness to change its approach in future Destiny 2 content. With Destiny 2: Beyond Light releasing in September, players should see a lot of changes that benefit the experience.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
