Ghostrunner Gets New Action Filled Showcase | Game Rant
The digital-only video game events that have replaced live venues such as E3 have offered games like Cold Symmetry's Mortal Shell time in the spotlight, having shown new trailers at the PC Gaming Show and IGN's Summer of Gaming. Another big showcase for the combination first-person parkour and shooter game Ghostrunner was also put out as part of the Summer of Gaming yesterday.
This 16-minute video begins with the introduction, where the main character, a Ghostrunner, is awoken by an entity called Architect Cybervoid and sent off to kill a woman named Mara, "The Keymaster," who has taken over the world. The parkour elements come as the titular character makes his way through a cubic, Tron-like "Cybervoid" in a style similar to games like Mirror's Edge.
As the video goes on it cuts to other gameplay, creating a montage of the main character running along walls, using an energy whip to grapple, and dashing so he can drop onto enemies with his samurai sword. The game, announced in 2019 and first playable at PAX East 2020, looks kinetic with great music, which is a good sign of more to come given a "work in progress" warning is displayed throughout.
With 3D Realms attached as a co-developer, the cyberpunk title has a pedigree that suggests it should live up to the hype of its Summer of Gaming gameplay showcase and the trailer that released at the same time. However, it's currently not clear when specifically prospective fans can expect to see it released.
Ghostrunner will be available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in 2020.
