New Destiny 2 Exotic Witherhoard Has Major Damage Bug | Game Rant
There appears to be a major bug with the new Witherhoard exotic grenade launcher in Destiny 2 that gives the weapon incredible damage potential. Players don't know how exactly the bug works but it is capable of allowing Witherhoard to take a raid boss' health from full to zero in just a few seconds.
As is typical of the Destiny 2 community anytime the game launches a new exotic, players began testing the Witherhoard on raid bosses. Some found that the weapon is fairly disappointing when it comes to raid boss DPS but a few discovered something strange.
When all 6 fireteam members are firing Witherhoard at a target there is a bug that depletes all of the boss' health almost immediately. Testing was done on Calus from Leviathan, the Sanctified Mind in Garden of Salvation, and Riven from Last Wish, and the bug worked each time.

While some Destiny 2 weapon bugs can be reproduced under similar circumstances, players report that this Witherhoard damage bug is much harder to replicate. On top of that, it seems that the bug only works when a fireteam of 6 is shooting at a raid boss; the bug does not work with strike bosses or elites. Something about the way that the Witherhoard works together with other Witherhoards helps the weapon deal massive damage.
Speculation suggests that the blight that the Witherhoard puts on a raid boss must not be working as intended. Under normal circumstances, if a player fires Witherhoard at a target, the enemy takes some damage over time and eventually, it runs out. If the target dies while afflicted by the blight they will leave a blight on the ground that can damage nearby targets.
So there must be something about the blight damage over time and how it works with other blights on the same target that is causing this Destiny 2 damage bug. Perhaps there is a multiplicative element that Bungie didn't account for, and it only comes into play when damaging a raid boss.
Whatever the case may be, Bungie is already aware of the Destiny 2 Witherhoard damage bug and likely looking into how to fix it. Since this is the new exotic weapon for the season, it would be a very disappointing move if the developer disabled Witherhoard, but that doesn't seem to be the answer. Since there are no raids launching until Destiny 2: Beyond Light, there are no concerns about Witherhoard giving fireteams an unfair advantage in content. At worst, the bug helps fireteams farm their raid clears a little faster.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
