New Godfall PC Trailer Shows Off Impressive Visuals | Game Rant

From its announcement back in December, one of the things that has stood out about Gearbox and Counterplay Games' next-gen action-RPG Godfall is its stylish visuals full of fantastical realms and striking armor-clad heroes with powerful-looking weapons. They’re impressive enough, in fact, that its newest trailer led to a brief confusion over how next-gen it really is.

The last few days have been good for those eager to see more of the game in action. Following the debut of its first official gameplay trailer at the PS5 reveal event on Thursday, Gearbox and Counterplay shared another trailer today during the PC Gaming Show, this time showing off the game running on PC. It was during the introduction for said trailer that it was stated that the game is powered by the upcoming Unreal Engine 5.

It’s a pretty exciting claim, except it’s false. Gearbox has previously confirmed that Godfall is being developed in Unreal Engine 4, and PC Gamer, the event’s organizer, confirmed on Twitter that the claim was a mistake, adding, “We regret the error.” While that may disappoint those eager to see what actual games will look like running on UE5, the UE4-powered visuals on display in the new trailer are impressive nevertheless.

Narrated by game director Keith Lee, it provides a general overview of the melee-based combat, the Valorian Knights that fans will play as, and the varied locales that they’ll fight their way through. It’s a nice change of pace from the non-stop barrage of combat footage that was Godfall’s PS5 trailer, but like that trailer, it doesn’t go much deeper into detailing what will make gameplay stand out from other loot-centric games like Borderlands, Destiny, or Diablo outside of its combat.

Still, these trailers do a good job of showing off the world players will inhabit. Even with these brief glimpses, the elemental-themed realms of Aperion look vibrant and full of detail, a rich mix of varied nature and imposing architecture. It’s like a high fantasy take on Destiny, and given the amount of detail shown, it’s no surprise that people might think this is footage from an Unreal Engine 5 title.

Only a few months remain before Godfall is released, so fans can expect Gearbox and Counterplay to step up the Godfall teases they’ve been dropping lately over the next few weeks. With any luck, that means a release date isn’t too far off.

Godfall will be released sometime this holiday season for PC and PS5.
