Red Dead Online Stops Hackers from Using Racist Tactics in Multiplayer
Rockstar is taking steps to combat racism in Red Dead Online, the online-multiplayer portion of Red Dead Redemption 2. Recently, reports of players being attacked by KKK members spawned by hackers have flooded the internet. However, Rockstar has now implemented a fix that should stop further incidents from taking place in the game.
However, according to dataminer Tez2, Rockstar has now implemented a fix for the issue. The game will now check if a player is online, detect if an NPC has been spawned, and immediately remove it if the NPC is found to be a KKK member. It's a surprisingly simple solution to an incredibly toxic issue. That being said, criticism about this becoming an issue in the first place is still valid, as it seems like there should have been some sort of safety net in the first place.
Previously, Rockstar shut down Red Dead Online for two hours in support of the Black Lives Matter protests. It does show that Rockstar supports the cause, which is good, though it's fair to say increased moderation may be worth considering in the future, especially considering Rockstar's increased emphasis on its online components.
Rockstar is putting Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PS5 along with GTA Online. While GTA 5 has been around for nearly seven years, it still frequently battles with toxicity and hacking, which has varied from a minor annoyance to a major issue in the game. Moving forward, it will be interesting to see how Rockstar combats the issue.
Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X seems inevitable, so it's a good thing Rockstar is sorting out these issues now. It's unfortunate that the problem arose in the first place, but at least it's been put to rest.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
