Rumor: Fortnite Season 3 to Feature SpongeBob SquarePants Crossover
Adding on to the multitudes of recent crossovers, Fornite is rumored to include a SpongeBob Squarepants theme in its Season 3 update for the game.
Fortnite is one of the pioneers of the battle royale franchise, created by Epic Games. The game was released back in 2017 for current-gen consoles and has met an incredible amount of success bringing 125 million players to the game in its first year.
Fortnite has had many recent events to bring players back to the game and entertain them during these hard times, such as the Travis Scott concert in Fortnite. Now according to a leaked icon for the upcoming season, Fortnite will have a crossover event with the king of Krabby Patties, SpongeBob Squarepants himself for its Season 3 update.
A Twitter account by the name of "ShiinaBR" has leaked a high definition image for the possible icon of Season 3, claiming that the accidental update for Fortnite was uploaded to the PlayStation Store early. The picture prominently features the iconic battle bus over a beautiful ocean landscape, and to the right of the bus, there is the island with three palm trees that many fans of Spongebob can recognize from the show's opening montage.
ShinnaBR also made another tweet stating that Season 3 will reintroduce the Heroes VS Villains theme once again. Shinna BR also includes a picture of "The International Justice League of Super Acquaintances," and "Every Villain is Lemons (EVIL)" who originally appeared in the episode titled "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy V," possibly hinting at how the team composition would look. It isn't mentioned how this update would affect the gameplay mechanics, but it is believed that the map will have a considerable implementation of functions surrounding the use of water.
With Nickelodeon recently coming out with a SpongeBob cooking mobile game, it would make sense that it would try to make a partnership with Fortnite to attract younger audiences. Sadly, the Season 3 update was pushed back another week from June 4th to June 11th, so players won't know until then if this leak is credible. Luckily, that still isn't too far away and if the Spongebob crossover doesn't happen, Fortnite fans can still be excited to cause mayhem all across the sea.
Fortnite is free-to-play on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
