Silent Hills' PT Modded Into Half-Life: Alyx | Game Rant
PT, the playable teaser for Hideo Kojima's now-canceled Silent Hills project, is entirely removed from the PS4, as Konami scrubbed its existence from the platform entirely. But PC gamers saved it, remaking PT and releasing it for free in early 2019. Now fans have gone a step further, modding PT into virtual reality game Half-Life: Alyx.
Playing PT in virtual reality sounds like a terrifying idea, and no one could blame a player for believing that. YouTuber William McMahon made a short video of the PT mod in action. They don't play through the full game, but they do go far enough that McMahon is chilled to the bone. Whoever told them that there were no jump scares is cruel beyond belief.
PT doesn't involve very many interactions, luckily. There are some drawers and objects spread around that can interacted with, but the true genius of PT in VR is simply the first-person perspective. PT is frightening when experienced on a monitor or television. Having the events of the game directly in front of the player's eyes, inescapable, is an extreme few are prepared for.
The modder behind the project is named AmbientDruth. It's not a direct port, by any means, but it's still an impressive approximation. Half-Life: Alyx introduced workshop tools for modding in May, so it's only natural that someone modded in PT. It's even possible that someone could add to the experience and make PT a full game. For now, AmbientDruth says that they're going to focus on future patches to further improve the experience.
Half-Life: Alyx is available now on PC and the PT mod can be downloaded via the Half-Life: Alyx workshop on Steam.
