XIII Remake Gets Release Date and New Trailer | Game Rant
With Ubisoft's Skull & Bones delayed to a massive degree, some players have wondered when they will see something new from the company. The most prominent titles from Ubisoft, such as Assassin's Creed, continue to gain notoriety while other games fall by the wayside. However, there is one remake coming from Ubisoft soon that will make players very happy: XIII.
Compared to Ubisoft's biggest moneymakers, XIII is a very different sort of game. It was different from other games, both in and out of its genre. Even today there are few games like it, so with proper marketing it could make a real splash.
The remake of XIII was announced several years ago, but only now is it finally coming to fruition. XIII is a unique first-person shooter title that was based loosely off a series of novels and was self-contained with no sequels (although it did have a cliffhanger ending. In a surprise addition to the lineup of Ubisoft games releasing this year, the XIII remake will launch on November 10, 2020.
Considering the recent success other companies have had with bringing back unusual shooters, this release is a good call on Ubisoft's part. Doom Eternal has enjoyed massive success and everyone is learning it inside and out, so there is a market for unusual shooters. That said, XIII is nothing like the Doom series, and has always had more of a cult following. A cell-shaded, comic book style mystery, XIII puts players into the shoes of a gun-slinging secret agent with amnesia.
Hopefully, this will be a chance for a new generation to experience what made XIII unique, as it has grown a cult following over time. While other FPS games are chasing the flashy and loud, like the upcoming Project Warlock, XIII will re-introduce the dedicated stealth approach to the genre. It's also a far more story-driven FPS than other games on the market these days.
Of course, all this may be for nothing if the game does not catch on. Even when it originally released, XIII was largely niche, and nothing like it has appeared since. If it fades into the background a second time with this new release, odds are no one will see it again. In a world full of constantly updating Call of Duty games, it is important to remember the other things an FPS game can be. Hopefully, XIII will prosper from its second chance.
XIII will release on November 10, 2020, for PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
