5 Items You Need In Don't Starve Together (& 5 You Don't)

Survival games are all the rage for many gamers. Luckily for them, Don't Starve introduces a multiplayer version Don't Starve Together. Antagonist Maxwell forces players to control characters through the depths of the wilderness. He laughs as they struggle to find food, fight enemies, and stay alive through it all. Items are an essential part of Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together.

They provide characters with various survival needs such as staying sane, weapons, warmth, knowledge, and many more. The game Don't Starve Together has its own array of quirky items for players to dive into. However, there are some items that players really don't need in comparison to others. What are these items?

10 Need: Thermal Stone

The classic thermal stone won't ever disappoint players. Players can craft this stone out of various materials for the characters. It keeps them warm during the torturous winters by rising body temperature. Characters who do not stay warm enough during the winter can freeze to death. Therefore, the thermal stone is an essential item to have on hand. Plus, the stone warms characters using a specific formula the alters depending on which character is using it. Characters can place the stone on the ground and warm up in no time. Players must snatch this useful item.

9 Don't Need: Walking Cane

The walking cane can be a useful addition for players to attain. However, they can live without it. The walking cane is useful for the obvious; walking. It can also work as a weapon when characters give it a swing. This item does not work that well as a weapon though. In fact, it's the least effective weapon in the game because it produces minimal damage. It does have permanent durability and increases the speed of characters. Regardless, there are many other items in comparison to the walking cane that players find much more useful.

8 Need: Cobblestones

The ground that characters travel on is oddly an important feature in Don't Starve Together. There are many circumstances where characters slow down depending on where they walk. That is why cobblestones can be very helpful. Players can craft these items and use them to increase the speed of characters. Cobblestones also provide fuel for characters just by walking on them. Plus, players can lay these down for characters in places that they might not usually consider traveling. This then opens up new opportunities within the game.

7 Don't Need: Ice Cube

Imagine trying to survive in the wilderness and thinking that crafting an ice cube will help. Well, this hilarious thought is sadly true in Don't Starve Together. Players might assume that ice cubes are useful because they can lower body temperature in the summer. However, ice cubes arguably cause more harm than good. They reduce the speed of characters and melt unless they remain in a specific icebox. Also, if they melt onto inventory, characters lose sanity. They really are not worth it, so players should not waste their time.

6 Need: Dark Sword

Weapons are always a necessity when facing enemies in the game. The dark sword is the weapon that players need. The sword is by far the most effective fighting weapon in Don't Starve Together. It does a lot of damage against enemies and characters can always rely on it. The only thing that the dark sword does not work against is shadow creatures such as ghosts. However, it works well against mobs which are very intimidating for characters if they don't possess strong weapons. This item is a must!

5 Don't Need: Torch

A torch in real life is pretty useless. Let alone a torch when trying to survive in the wilderness. The torch is a good idea because players can use it to guide the way when it's dark. However, it does not let provide that much light. Characters can only travel so far before it burns out which is frustrating. It's not very durable and when it rains, the torch burns out a lot faster. Harsh winds can also cause the torch to burn faster. Players are better off crafting a campfire for the characters and wait until it's light out again.

4 Need: Dragonpie

All food items are important in Don't Starve and Don't Starve Together. Regardless, there are some that are more beneficial than others. Dragonpie is arguably the best food item in the game. It takes less than a minute to cook and is satisfying for characters.

Players can add other types of food into the dragonpie which results in even more food. In other words, players can just use dragon berries or they can use meats, honey, vegetables, eggplant, and more. This results in other dishes for characters to enjoy. Therefore, dragonpie is not just dragonpie. It's a feast.

3 Don't Need: Bat Bat

The magical fighting weapon bat bat might seem intriguing, but players really don't want this item. It causes an average amount of damage, and it is not permanently durable. In addition, it uses up sanity from characters if they do not have full health.

Therefore, it can also cause damage to characters as well as enemies when in use. Seems pretty counteractive right? An upside is that it works well against enemies without a lot of strength. That's not the best reason to possess the bat bat though.

2 Need: Marble Suit

Players who craft the marble suit give characters a lot of advantages in battle. It absorbs a significant about of damage to characters during fights. The marble suit is also extremely durable for armor. It slightly decreases the speed of the characters. However, because of this, it is one of the most protective suits in the game so it balances out. The suit works well against bosses and any enemy without full health. Players need this in their wardrobe.

1 Don't Need: Insulated Pack

It's not that the insulated pack is not useful, it's just not an item that players should be scrambling for. This backpack expands inventory for characters, but it only provides six spots. So it doesn't even expand it by a significant amount for what it's worth. Plus, the insulated pack cannot even go into one of the inventory spots itself. The pack is helpful for storing items and decreases the chances of rotting food. However, it's flammable and characters must lug it around. Players are better off using inventory and items the regular way.
