Dark Souls: 10 Solaire Memes Only Sunbros Will Understand
Anyone who has played Dark Souls knows how dark it is (pun intended). It is clear that the game takes itself quite seriously, which is what makes the most emotional moments in the game so meme-worthy. Dark Souls has its fair share of fan-made memes that might not relate to everyone, but precisely to the "Souls" players.
That is where Solaire comes in. He is the perfect example of a great side character done right. The fans love Solaire so much that he has transcended above the realm of video games and has become things like artwork, 3D figures, and, more specifically, memes.
10 It Is "Praise The Sun"
If there is a list of things most Dark Souls fans know about, the phrase "Praise The Sun" will be in the top ten. Knowing so, what kind of monster would it take to ruin the catchphrase like this? Some people like to watch the world burn, and then some people want to watch the WORD burn because this is a goddamn roast. It is not Praise the Sunlight; it was and always will be Praise The Sun. Facepalming is not enough, but it is all that's left.
9 Another Day Another Chat
People always have these weird chats with their friends and families, with droplets of information that only they can decode. This meme is similar to that in regard. Because to anyone outside the Dark Souls domain, this would sound like someone trying to convert a person to religion. But in fact, this is just two Sun-Bros communicating their love for the solar giant. Because they understand the reality of this world, they know that all that is left is to "Praise The Sun."
8 I Get That Look
Most of Dark Souls players meet Solaire after beating the Taurus Demon and making their way around the bridge. But it just depends, as the game does not force players to pick the same route. This is what makes this meme funny, as we can see Solaire being himself. While the character is wearing the hilarious-looking Mask of the Father, that is a look that probably nobody has ever seen, but it appears that the Sun-Bro has seen it all. Or maybe he can not see a thing, after staring into the sun for so long.
7 Solaire Is The True Bro
Solaire is the truest of bros, as he is always there for the player in the darkest of times. This is why the little comic above hits right in the feels. For many, there are people in their life that they can rely upon, or feel safe around.
That is true in games as well since, for every Dark Souls fan, Solaire is that one person in their life that would always bring joy and happiness. The funniest part of this comic has to Estus Flask with two straws. and the cute little pillow with the tagline "Reserved - Best Friend".
6 We All Have Our Own Sun
Dark Souls is a game with a lot more lore than anyone would expect. The game never spoon feeds information to players that they do not want to consume. This is why a lot of the concepts in the game are left on the imagination of the players. One of them being Solaire's obsession with the sun. While the game shows an actual sun when Solaire refers to it, does it actually mean the sun? Or does it mean something else? Like passion or motivation for something or a person. Or perhaps we're reading too much into the words.
5 Technical Problem?
What makes this meme weirdly funny is that it is not directly related to Dark Souls, but instead just use the in-game quote to refer to a real-life problem. On a basic level, there can be technical problems whether it is a phone, car, or microwave. After all most of them run on some sort of energy source or batteries. But on a deeper level, maybe time itself is convoluted. Maybe there is nothing true in the world, and everything is a loop of incidents, and every idea anyone has ever had and their lives are mere tiny particles moving in infinite motion.
4 Quite Literally
While girls vs boys memes are the oldest concept, it is still somewhat funny. The Bell Gargoyle boss fight with Solaire on the side has been one of the best parts of the Dark Souls. As it is the first time players team up with Solaire. The rooftop fight isn't just a fun boss fight, but it is a highly emotional one as well.
This is the time everyone sees how truly magnificent Solaire is with all his faith for the sun. This is the moment that makes Dark Souls fans believe in the phrase "Praise The Sun".
3 Anime Souls
The little comic above is factual to Dark Souls, as it shows how ridiculously good players feel once they've chugged on a couple of Estus Flasks. Because low health in Dark Souls almost always means imminent death, but for some reason when the health is over half, it feels like no enemy is anything. Well, this is kind of equivalent to someone putting their faith in the main protagonist, during a big fight scene in an anime. Remember how every time Goku makes a comeback in Dragon Ball Z? That is this.
2 Rest In Peace
Solaire is without a doubt one of the best side characters in Dark Souls. Which is why losing him at the end of the game hits everyone deeply. As the game does not have a set list of written checkpoints and consequences, almost everyone who has played the game for the first time must have not found the way to save Solaire. Making the whole experience sadder than it already was. Solaire will always remain unsuccessful in his pursuit, in that playthrough forever.
1 Memes Are Like Estus Flasks
Almost true for anyone reading memes right now. People do things in their lives that help them feel better. Many of them exercise, others go out with friends or play video games, and then there are some who just read and share memes with each other. Where, every meme is like chugging on Estus Flask, one by one, recovering the mood. And who are we to judge. If something this harmless works in making life better, go ahead and do it. Nobody will stop.
