Dead by Daylight Updating Two Popular Killers | Game Rant
Behavior Interactive has an exciting new Developer Update for two popular Killers in its survival horror game Dead by Daylight. The 4.1.0 update is making some changes for The Hillbilly and The Cannibal, also known as Leatherface.
This Dead by Daylight update has a major focus on chainsaw mechanics, which par for the course for a horror game. The Hillbilly was recently the target of some bug fixes in Hotfix 4.0.2, and is now receiving some small changes such as the Overheat mechanic for his chainsaw, which causes a revved chainsaw to accumulate heat that is displayed around the power icon and on the chainsaw. Filling up the Overheat meter temporarily stops the chainsaw from working.
Behavior Interactive says it wants to draw the attention to "skill-based gameplay" and effective chainsaw use for Hillbilly players, which is why it doesn't want to add any major drawbacks to the weapon. The update also made it clear that the devs are mostly content with The Hillbilly, which is why it didn't make any significant changes to the Killer. Making big changes to popular Killers like Pyramid Head (even aesthetic ones) can be unpopular with fans, so Behavior Interactive seems to be exerting extra caution with Hillbilly.
Leatherface, who just came to mobile, also got a chainsaw update, with his chainsaw now activating similarly to The Hillbilly's, instead of being fully charged and released like before. Bubba's Chainsaw has three charges now, with one being consumed when the player starts a Chainsaw Sweep. Charges refresh every few seconds, but overuse can extend Leatherface's tantrum. The Killer also got buffed, with a new max movement speed of 5.29m/s.
Leatherface's add-ons also got updated, including Shop Lubricant, Depth Gauge Rake, and Iridescent Flesh, all for Bubba's Chainsaw. Behavior Interactive also reviewed two of The Cannibal's perks: Franklin's Demise and Knockout. Similarly, Hillbilly received add-on updates for Dad's Boots, Pighouse Gloves, and Lopro Chains, among others. The Killer's Lightborn and Tinkerer perks also got buffed. Unlike Survivors, Killers' add-ons are unique to them and they have to make use of the items they have.
While Survivors can mix and match perks to create custom builds, Killers are more reliant on their unique perk abilities and players must learn to use these perks effectively if they want to play the Killer well. The Hillbilly's Lightborn update, for example, makes the Killer immune to firecracker and flashlight-induced blindness, and temporarily reveals the aura of Survivors attempting to blind the Hillbilly.
Contrast that to Version 1.0.0, which had this ability merely granting resistance to blinding, and the perk updates look really helpful to Killers. Hopefully, all the updates help make the game more fun for Hillybilly and Cannibal players, and more challenging for the Survivors fighting them.
Dead by Daylight is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
