Destiny 2: How to Get the Ruinous Effigy Exotic Trace Rifle
It's July 7 and there is a new Destiny 2 Season of Arrivals update available. Starting today, Season Pass owners can finally acquire the Ruinous Effigy exotic trace rifle. Here are the steps.
Exotic trace rifles are some of the more unique weapons in Destiny 2 and each of them comes with its own gimmick. The Ruinous Effigy is probably one of the more outlandish ones as it turns defeated enemies into usable artifact weapons.
To start the "Growth" quest chain, players will have to speak with the Prismatic Recaster next to the Drifter at the Tower Annex. The vendor will offer the "Means to an End" pursuit too, if the player doesn't have it in their quest log already, as it is needed for the next step.
Players then have to complete the weekly "Interference" mission on Io, which can be accessed only after doing the "Means to an End" pursuit. This week's objective is to do Contact public events, which are now available on Titan as well.
The following step is a scavenger hunt. Using the Ghost's navigation mode, players need to spot a total of 25 Calcified Light Fragments across Mercury, Mars, Titan, and Io. These will be highlighted on the player's HUD. At the same time, 15 of Savathun's Marionettes have to be killed on Io and Titan to progress to the next step. These are Unstoppable Cabal Phalanx Champions.
These minibosses usually spawn on the zone the Contact public event isn't in. Search for and kill elite and boss-type Taken enemies, or destroy Taken Blights (shaped as large translucent domes) to draw out the Marionettes. Alternatively, they can also be found at the end of a Heroic Contact public event. Equip Unstoppable weapon mods or use exotics like Devil's Ruin or Leviathan's Breath if solo.
Now, players need to play some Gambit and/or Reckoning. Defeating invaders or getting kills as an invader in Gambit as well as running higher tiers of Reckoning grants additional progress. This step also requires getting Void kills and precision multi-kills. Using a well-rolled Void pulse rifle could be a good choice to use in this section.
After all that work, players can open their "Gift" at the Umbral Decoder next to the Drifter and get their Ruinous Effigy. Players should keep in mind that this quest is only available during Season of Arrivals and that this weapon is needed to destroy Savathun's Eyes scattered throughout the system.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
