DOOM is Now Playable in Minecraft Thanks to a Mod | Game Rant
Minecraft players have a mod for just about everything. From Harry Potter mods to Pokemon mods to being able to play Minecraft within Minecraft, players have built mods for just about everything, and that now includes being able to play DOOM in Minecraft.
Minecraft was originally released in 2009, and is still massively popular 11 years later. Players have used Minecraft to do everything from recreating famous locations from other famous games, like Skyrim, to being used to teach kids about diabetes. Minecraft fans have also been known to put other games inside of it with mods. While the Nether already has a DOOM kind of feeling, VM Computers thought it needed even more DOOM, and now there's a mod for it.
The original 1993 DOOM is available to play inside of Minecraft through a mod by VM Computers. Reddit User u/uDrunkMate posted a video of playing the DOOM mode in their own Minecraft house on a tiny monitor.
The VM Computer's mod allows players to build and boot a working Window 95 PC inside of Minecraft. They first have to build a tablet, then they can order parts from a floating satellite. After that, they will be able to put together an actual working Windows 95 PC inside of the game. The mod uses VirtualBox to run the now ancient software, giving players access to anything they could run on an old PC inside of Minecraft, like DOOM. Players can then create a virtual hard drive and run old games and programs through the mod.
It's pretty amazing that software that used to take up a good chunk of a computer's ram, memory, and storage like Windows 95 can now easily be run inside of a game. This is way more impressive than the YouTube user that got Windows 95 to run on their Xbox One. The VM Computer mod is quickly becoming the meme that keeps on giving. It's going to be amazing to see exactly what players will come up with next to run inside of Minecraft.
Minecraft is an amazingly versatile and fun game, which is a good part of its charm. With players constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible, maybe someday they'll even be able to battle through Minecraft Dungeons inside of Minecraft.
Minecraft is available for mobile devices, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
