Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot: Is Bandai Namco Planning a Training Room Update
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot fans are waiting as patiently as they can for any news about the second DLC. Though many are holding out for a Kakarot announcement at tonight's Play Anime Live event, there's no guarantee any news will come. That doesn't stop speculation from rampaging, though, and now players have discovered an oddity that occured during one of the recent updates. At some point in the previous months, the Training Room was changed to allow the player to pick their character automatically rather than requiring a manual button press, and this change was not noted in any patch notes.
The discovery is owed to DmGaming, an active Dragon Ball YouTuber dedicated to sharing accurate news about Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot and other Dragon Ball games as well. He notes the change in the video and then goes on to say that it could have implications regarding a free content update coming to Kakarot soon, potentially alongside the upcoming card battle mode. In typical DmGaming fashion, he emphasizes that he is simply speculating and that nothing is confirmed, but there may be some merit to his speculation after all.
The video above shows DmGaming discussing the changes made to the in game Training Room. Again, all that has changed is that players are now prompted to choose their team before starting a mission, whereas previously players had to manually press a button to change their team. Many found this annoying, as they'd end up starting training missions with the wrong team or sometimes completely solo, but it is still a relatively minor change. What's strange about this is that despite it being a complaint that fans had with the game, Bandai Namco never announced that it made the change in any patch notes.
What's more, the introduction of Whis' training made the Training Room and Bonyu obsolete for the most part. Aside from unlocking character skills, it was much easier to use Whis in order to level up since he provided more experience and rewards items which can level characters up. What purpose would the developers have to go back into this outdated system and make a quality of life change like this unless it was planning to use the system for more than it is currently intended for? Again, this is just speculation and it could be that the developers just saw a problem and fixed it, but it could be more as well.
It has already been confirmed by the V Jump scans that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's card battle mode is coming soon, but changes could be made to the Training Room at the same time as well. While this may seem unlikely to many, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has already set up a lot off stories in the game which it has seemingly abandoned. Prime examples of this include Bonyu, an original character introduced for one fight mainly used for experience grinding, and Android 21's inclusion, who also is closely related to the Training Room.
Beyond that, there is tons of opportunity to use the training room to emulate other Dragon Ball Z movies, continue the fight with Mira and Towa, and more. The systems in place have a lot of potential, but they can't currently be used without an update. Perhaps Bandai Namco's stealth change to the Training Room was a way of setting up for that without making it extremely obvious. One thing is certain though; players are losing faith in the game due to its infrequent content updates. A sizable, free update could be exactly what Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot needs to get it back on its feet. Even still, it would be best for fans not to set their expectations too high.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
