Early Nintendo Game Prototypes May Have Leaked | Game Rant
Nintendo is one of the most beloved names in gaming thanks to its rich history, innovative ideas, and games that simply put smiles on faces. The company has traditionally been tight-lipped when it comes to the development of games, but recently fans have done some digging and apparently found prototypes of Nintendo ideas.
Twitter has blown up with Nintendo as a result. Apparently source code info has been leaked online, similarly to how Wii source code leaked back in May of this year. The results are a combination of creepy and cool.
One of the videos that have appeared online is a prototype of Yoshi's Island, often argued as the best game on the Super Nintendo. In the video, fans can see what appears to be an early build of Yoshi's Island, with assets and ideas that made it to the final design. However, the level itself is new, the UI is different, and the sound effects are from Super Mario World, most likely serving as a placeholder.
The video is just the start of the fun, as images have also popped up on Twitter. A prototype Yoshi and even a sort-of adorable Donkey Kong sprite are a part of the leaks. The DK has the head of the annoying monkey that made it into the final build of the best Yoshi game ever.
Perhaps the creepiest of the leaks is an early sprite of Yoshi, along with prototypes of Koopas. The Koopa likely could have become one of the weirdest Super Mario enemies if the design had stuck. Nintendo fans can all rejoice that the much more polished and lovable designs are what made it to the final games.
Although these leaks are interesting, there is a chance that they are not even real. Many fake leaks pop up online, like a recent fake Skyrim PS5, as devious artists like posting things online for laughs. But if they are fake, whoever is responsible for them did a nice job.
If the leaks are real, however, the Big N may not be too happy. Nintendo is known for filing lawsuits against hackers, leakers, and copyright infringers. Whatever the case may be, these goofy images and videos are certainly good for some smiles.
