Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Creative Director Starts New Studio
During today's Devolver Direct presentation, a pair of ex-Ubisoft employees announced the formation of a new studio. The studio is named Beans and according to the announcement, the plan is to hire a variety of more talent for the studio's first project. But it's the identities of the two founders that make Beans' future such an interesting prospect.
Dean Evans, in particular, is interesting. Evans worked for Ubisoft for 12 years, leaving in 2018. During his tenure, Evans went from a marketing game manager to a creative director on Ubisoft's Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon project. He left in 2018 thinking of starting a new studio, saying he'd be "a total ****ing hypocrite if I moved forward and didn't take any risks." Two years later, he's followed through on that promise.
Also with an impressive experience record behind her is Gabriela Salvatore, who worked for Ubisoft for four years as a game designer. Projects she worked on include Far Cry: Primal and Far Cry 5. She also worked several years at Creative Assembly as a senior game designer on Total War: Three Kingdoms.
By Evans' words, and judging from the personality the pair showed in their Devolver Direct clip, whatever project Beans works on first will be somewhat experimental and exciting. It's also unlikely to be revealed anytime soon, especially if the studio's already acquired a publishing partnership with Devolver Digital. Nevertheless, it'll be exciting to see what Beans does down the road.
