League of Legends Gets Gorgeous Animation for New Champion Yone

Riot Games has announced the newest champion coming to League of Legends with an amazing new cinematic trailer that introduces players to the new story and lore surrounding Yone. The animation also does a pretty decent job of showing off Yone's abilities, giving players a stylized vision of what they can expect when controlling the new champion.

This certainly isn't the first time that Riot has released an animation for League of Legends as a way to introduce players to new champions, tournaments, and even skin packs. In fact, the animations surrounding the game are leading to a now delayed animated series that is slated to release in 2021.

The animation itself crosses between different animation styles and different times in the life of classic champion Yasuo and his older brother Yone, who is joining as a vengeful spirit to participate in League of Legends. This comes just in time to celebrate the new Spirit Blossom missions, which this new cinematic is attributed to, as both champions have a heavy roll in the in-game event. At the end of the animation, players are shown Yasuo, heading with Ari to Bildgewater, with Yone still holding animosity towards his brother.

Fans more familiar with the lore of League of Legends would recognize that this isn't Yone's first appearance, although the latest moment in his history that has been shown was when he died at the hands of Yasuo. The character has also made an appearance in Legends of Runeterra in his still living form, however, Riot Games has decided that in order to do both brother's justice, it would be best if Yone was killed. This would explain the new champion's spiritual aesthetic and abilities, in both his default outfit as well as his Spirit Blossom skin that has a less demonic style to it.

Players can start playing around with the new champion when the 10.16 patch releases to League of Legends on August 6th, bringing a number of updates along with Yone. Fans of Yasuo will likely have a similar experience with Yone, as Riot Games has even mentioned that the new character is meant to bring down the classic champion's pick rate and balance team compositions across the community. Regardless of how the characters wind up playing in-game, the animation is a clear showing of how well Riot builds lore and creates cinematics, which should be encouraging for fans ready for the animated series.

League of Legends is available now for PC.
