Summer Games Done Quick Schedule Announced | Game Rant
The week-long summer event Summer Games Done Quick will be here very soon, and it's finally revealed its full schedule. Come Sunday, August 16, gamers will have a lot of exciting gameplay to watch and charities to contribute to.
Last month, Games Done Quick announced that the summer event would be held online due to Covid-19 restrictions. Wanting to stay true to its charitable mission statement while keeping volunteers safe, the group decided to cancel the on-site event and replace it with an online event titled "Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online," and gamers everywhere are just glad that the event wasn't fully canceled. Hosts will be broadcasting from a small studio while participants will play games from the comfort of their own homes.
While gamers wait in anticipation of the exciting speedrun charity event that will reprise games throughout the generations, they can check out the fully-released schedule on the Games Done Quick website. On the premiere day, the classic Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x will be played by gamers who will be competing for All Goals and Gold, and a little later in the evening players will compete in the World Peace category in Super Mario Odyssey.
In later days, watchers can look forward to popular retro classics such as Zelda 2, Portal 2, and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on Monday, BioShock Infinite on Tuesday, Miami Vice on Thursday, and Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix and Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen on Friday. And for more modern titles, fans will see Hollow Knight and Superliminal on Monday, The Last of Us on Wednesday, Horizon Zero Dawn, Breath of the Wild, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Friday, and Bloodborne on Saturday. Dozens of more titles can be seen in the full schedule.
As for what charities SGDQ will be donating to, just like every year, they will be supporting Doctors Without Borders. Hopefully, the donations will prove to be substantially helpful to the organization in the wake of the pandemic as they race to respond in over 70 different countries. Earlier this year, however, Games Done Quick put on a special charity streaming event called "Corona Relief Done Quick" to help improve the lives and health of people impacted by the pandemic.
Back in January, Games Done Quick accomplished raising over $3.1 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, setting a record within the charity group. Starting at just a little over $10k in donations at the end of GDQ's first-ever charity even in 2010, this is an enormous feat. And over the course of ten years of speedrun marathons, Games Done Quick has raised a whopping $25 million, split between several charities.
Summer Games Done Quick will run from August 16-23.
