Twitch Streamer SayNoToRage Banned Following Allegations
In another chapter of Twitch bans, SayNoToRage has been banned from the streaming platform following several women coming forward with harassment allegations against him.
In another upheaval of sexual harassment allegations in the gaming industry, several Twitch streamers found themselves in hot water multiple women came forward with stories and accusations of sexual harassment, misconduct, and assault. These personalities of alleged abusers not only include Twitch streamers, but also game developers, journalists, and YouTubers.
Many of these accusations were made against partnered Twitch streamer and podcaster SayNoToRage, also known as Lono. Some of the heavier allegations come from two women, SheSnaps and PrincessKitley, both of which wrote essays detailing their experiences with SayNoToRage and posted them to Twitter.
Twitch has been handing out bans following the abuse allegations, and it looks like SayNoToRage was included because he has been subsequently banned from the streaming platform. But this looks to have been a response from Twitch following a lengthy video and 38-page statement posted by Lono early on July 2.
The goal of the video, according to SayNoToRage, is to provide "significant and compelling evidence" against those who have made accusations against him, but this comes in contrast to an apology video he posted on June 20 to "those who deserve a true apology." Though, in the apology video, he does note that he does not recollect some of the accusations made against him and may need to make a video on "his side of things."
But in his hour-long statement posted this morning, he says that the apology video was "not an admission of guilt." He shows pages of alleged evidence, including screenshots of emails and conversation chains to provide context to hopefully disprove the claims made against him by numerous women. SayNoToRage claims that these women have been in cahoots with each other to create a narrative against him. Some of these women, including SheSnaps, had previously provided their own alleged screenshots of email chains with SayNoToRage on Twitter.
But Twitch promptly responded to the abuse allegations by banning his channel, and while it is currently unclear whether or not it's a permanent ban, many users are speculating that it is, if Twitch will continue to follow its more recent trends. Some Twitter users were anticipating this ban, saying "it's about time," while others respond to Lono's hour-long statement in support, saying that they're glad to hear his side of the story. Some speculate as to why he didn't come forward with such a great amount of evidence back when the allegations happened. Lono himself says that he was unable to and notes that it took him weeks to gather this evidence.
While this ongoing story seems to have devolved into an unfortunate he-said-she-said scenario, Lono has involved a legal team, and his lawyer will be in contact with Twitch going forward, so those following this story may have to wait longer to see how it unfolds.
Twitch continues to find itself in the eye of the news, with more developments each day involving names like Dr Disrespect, Alinity, and even Donald Trump, who has had his channel banned for "hateful conduct."
