What to Expect From Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5
After a slight delay, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's fourth season was launched last month and introduced many exciting things to both Modern Warfare and Warzone. The new additions included new modes to their playlists, new challenges, weapons, and the return of some features.
Although Season 4 still has a month to go before it ends, many players are now speculating on what Infinity Ward will bring to the game once Season 5 begins. Now, for those players who are patiently waiting for the next season, here is everything we know so far about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's upcoming fifth season, including the leaks that have surfaced online and updates that players can expect to see in the game soon.
As previously mentioned, Modern Warfare Season 4 is set to end on August 4th, and it is likely that the game's fifth season will follow shortly after. Looking at the game's history, Season 3 ended on June 2 and Season 4 started on June 10, so players should expect some downtime between seasons. Originally, Season 4 was supposed to launch immediately after Season 3 ended, but given the political climate at the time, Infinity Ward decided to postpone Season 4 for a few days to give way for people who are "speaking up for equality, justice, and change," the studio said in a tweet.
Having said all this, it is likely that Season 5 would begin immediately after Season 4 and could launch as early as August 5th. Of course, there could be external factors that may affect this, including the still on-going coronavirus pandemic, which have caused delays all over the video game industry. Should a delay happen, players can expect Season 5 to release after a few days to a week after Season 4 closes. At the moment, there is still no official word from Infinity Ward regarding the official start date of Season 5, so anything can happen.
Ever since the start of Season 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare dataminers have been hard at work sorting through all of the game's files to dig up information on the upcoming season. Since then, dataminers discovered some weapons that are still not included in the game such as the M200, R700 Sniper Rifle, and the SPAS-12. It is worth noting that all of these weapons have been datamined before but are still not featured in the game.
Moreover, a new operator named Wood was also discovered by dataminers, which led many to speculate that Season 5 will be bridging the universe of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Black Ops. Additionally, Soap MacTavish, who has been a long-time favorite among veteran Call of Duty players is also rumored to make an appearance in Modern Warfare. Lastly, dataminers uncovered well-known maps from previous games, such as Scrapyard and Highrise within the Modern Warfare's game files, and could very well appear in the game's upcoming season.
Apart from leaks discovered by dataminers, there have been several reports that Season 5 will be introducing huge map changes in Call of Duty: Warzone. Changes include a revamp of the game's giant football stadium that will include an open interior, in addition to the loot-filled train that will continuously circle the game's map. According to reports, the big addition in Warzone's map is an effort to make the game more in line with the next Call of Duty game that will take place during the Cold War.
Moreover, reports claim that Activision will be integrating Black Ops content into Warzone, which will mark the first time that Call of Duty's sub-brands will be combined outside of Call of Duty Mobile. As of the moment, it appears that Warzone will continue to run on Modern Warfare's engine, with its development to be led by Raven Software, the team behind Black Ops 4's Blackout mode.
As far as pricing is concerned, Call of Duty Modern Warfare's Season 5 Battle Pass will likely be priced at $9.99 or 1,000 COD Points. The Battle Pass is expected to include 100 tiers for players to attain, and each tier will give players access to new customization options, weapons, and timed XP boosts.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
