Witcher 3 Mods Bring Netflix Versions of Triss and Yennefer to the Game
While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is five years old, the expansive world of modding can make it feel fresh through new mechanics such as giving Geralt flintlock pistols. The Witcher franchise has become markedly more popular since then thanks to its Netflix adaptation, so luckily for fans there are mods available that replace in-game models for characters like Triss Merigold and Yennefer of Vengerberg with their Netflix counterparts.
A retexturing mod for Triss to make her look like actress Anna Shaffer was uploaded to Nexus Mods on July 4, 2020, but was most recently updated by creator Bububull today. It requires The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine DLC to work properly and other changes have been made such as removing the naked character model with respect to using the likeness of a real person, but it also goes so far as to replace each of her outfits with various looks seen in the Netflix show.
The same treatment was given to Yennefer, remodeling her to look like Anya Chalotra's take on the character, through a good companion mod created by WitcherSeb in January. Other options are also available, such as a mod by Adnan4444 created right around The Witcher Season 1's airing that changed both Yennefer and Geralt of Rivia to look like his counterpart Henry Cavill.
Just replacing character models is only the tip of the iceberg for what fans have been able to do with CD Projekt Red's popular fantasy RPG, itself based on the Polish novel series created by Andrzej Sapkowski. One particularly ambitious modding project overhauled The Witcher 3's visual assets to create a reworked, completely high-definition experience.
The Witcher's Netflix series was immediately popular enough for the streaming service that it makes sense why so many modders have gone out of their way to add its characters into the video game. Season 2 of The Witcher has yet to go back into production after being shut down due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but it is highly anticipated.
Overall, The Witcher's impact on popular culture in recent years is hard to overstate, and it has had quite an expanded reach thanks to its successful ventures. The video games have helped make CD Projekt Red a household name, and the developer has paid this back by referencing The Witcher 3 in advertising for Cyberpunk 2077.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One
