World of Warcraft Server Merge Coming Soon | Game Rant
Being stuck on a low population server in any MMO can be a serious problem, and individually transferring to another server isn't always an adequate - or affordable - solution for those playing there. Thankfully, World of Warcraft fans shouldn't have to worry about this issue much longer.
Blizzard has revealed that players who are on low-population World of Warcraft realms will be combined with 'other existing realms' in the near future. This process should happen anywhere from 2-3 months from now, which may coincide with or just precede the upcoming Shadowlands expansion pack. However, Blizzard hasn't offered a list of which realms have the lowest population, so players will have to wait and see if they'll be merged with another realm. In any case, the company has promised to alert players prior to commencing with the merge.
Although the population of certain servers may have dwindled over the years, World of Warcraft's popularity is far from over, and its long-lasting influence on the gaming community shows. Fans who have been playing for over a decade and those who are just barely getting started came together in a tribute to the late World of Warcraft streamer Reckful recently, who was a big part in getting many players to pick up the game.
Of course, not every player is happy about the move. Some were outspoken in their fondness for their low population WoW servers. While the complaints are highly unlikely to dissuade Blizzard, the concern is reasonable, as server economies will no doubt be highly shaken up by this move, at least temporarily.
World of Warcraft is available now on PC.
