An Xbox One Controller Sponge Cake is Coming Soon | Game Rant
For months now, social media has been plagued with videos of various items that appear to be normal, everyday, household things, only to reveal that they were made of cake the entire time. This spawned the creation of a strange meme, with people turning other well-known things, like Dragon Ball Z characters, into an odd amalgamation of pastry and pop culture. Now it seems like Xbox is taking that meme to the next level, by selling an actual officially licensed Xbox One controller cake.
It's no secret that the team at Xbox is very proud of its controllers. For many players, the Xbox 360 controller is still their controller of choice when it comes to PC gaming. Its pride for its controllers seems to be continuing in the next generation of consoles as well, considering that Xbox One controllers will be fully compatible with Xbox Series X in contrast to PS5's limited PS4 controller support.
The announcement for the Xbox One controller cake was made a few days ago on Twitter by Head of Xbox Consumer Products, John Friend, where he showed the cake and asked if anyone could identify what it was a picture of. He then sent a follow-up tweet saying that it was, in fact, a nut-free sponge cake, and would be available at Tesco and ASDA in September.
Interested eaters of the cake-troller can find more details for the confection on the side of the box. The sponge cake will have a layer of raspberry jam while also being covered in icing. And while the classic Xbox face buttons, offset joysticks, and home button don't work, they do happen to be edible.
With so many stuck inside during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, it seems like both video games and baking have both become more popular ways of passing time. Sometimes these hobbies even overlap, where passionate gamers create beautiful cakes or pastries of their favorite video game characters, like Tom Nook.
While Friend's announcement tweet states that the cake will be coming in September, no official date has been given for its exact release. There was also no word on pricing for the baked goods either, however knowing officially licensed products, it might be best to expect a high price point. It seems just like the price for PS5 and Xbox Series X, players will just have to wait in anticipation for more details about this sweet treat.
