Apex Legends Player Turns Wraith Portal Into Deathtrap for Enemies
Wraith is a very popular character, with many Apex Legends statistics placing her as the most used character in the game, yet despite this, the full extent of her toolkit is still being discovered by players. Another ace up Wraith's sleeve has been found recently, and it involves a more offensive way to use her portal ability.
Wraith is able to travel inter-dimensionally in Apex Legends, using portals to teleport from one location to another very quickly. This is often seen as a great retreating strategy, as it allows her to put some distance between herself and her enemy, but it has some flaws.
The biggest issue many have with using portals as an escape route is that enemies are able to use her portals as well. Often, a badly wounded Wraith will flee through a portal only to be gunned down from behind by the same foe. This trick helps to remedy that problem.
The foundation of this technique comes from how Apex Legends handles falling characters. When airborne and falling, enemies are effectively stationary and can't do much to dodge incoming attacks. Usually, players have to make a mistake to leave themselves in vulnerable positions, but those that know how to play Wraith players can force enemies into such a state with the right setup. If one jumps before using a portal, the exit portal will be slightly raised off the ground, causing any who exit it to be stationary for a brief moment. If an enemy follows Wraith into this kind of portal, they'll be a sitting duck when they pop out the other side.
Of course, this affects Wraith too, but since the player will be the first one to exit the portal they'll likely have time to drop to the ground, turn around, and prepare to fire on a greedy foe. This is the main drawback to the technique as well, though, it relies on enemies chasing after the Wraith and the player will still need to be quick on their feet to make the most of what little time this strategy grants them. That said, there are some other ways this can be used as well.
Players can throw Thermite Grenades at the entrance of the portal as well if they're confident that someone will follow them through, as since they'll spend precious moments falling to the ground they won't have time to react and avoid the explosion. This is but one of many ways Wraith players can use their portals in a more offensive manner.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
