Big Xbox Game Pass Announcement Coming This Month | Game Rant
Xbox Game Pass has grown a lot since Microsoft first introduced it three years ago, and with the Xbox Series X about to drop in a few months, it’s bound to continue growing. Microsoft has already divulged some of its plans for that growth, having detailed how Project xCloud is going to bring cloud-based streaming to Game Pass soon, but if word on the street is to be believed, there’s even more in the way of big news coming this month.
August has long been pegged as the likeliest time for Microsoft to make the final key announcements regarding its plans for the Xbox platform ahead of the XSX’s launch. There’s been much speculation as to what it might announce this month, and with how much the company has been pushing Game Pass, a lot of that speculation has guessed at all sorts of major changes that could be coming to the subscription service.
Adding fuel to that fire is Venture Beat reporter Jeff Grubb. In recent weeks, Grubb has chimed in on a handful of few Xbox-related rumors, and he did so again in response to the news that Microsoft has canceled its initial plans for Xbox 20/20. Echoing the popular belief that August is “going to be kind of an Xbox Month,” he wrote that, in addition to Project xCloud and the exclusive features on Samsung Galaxy devices, Xbox fans should expect to see “yet another big reason to get Game Pass in the next 2-to-3 weeks."
What this big reason is, Grubb wouldn’t say, but he did provide an idea of what it won’t be, namely that it’s “not any specific game or anything like that." Illustrating his point further, he stated that the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch. He had actually speculated on the likelihood of the game launching on the service last month, only for CD Projekt RED to flat-out state that it has no plans for that.
This announcement that Grubb is teasing could be practically anything, but it’s possible it may have something to do with Xbox Live. Among the rumors that have gained the most traction recently is the one that Xbox Live might be merged with Game Pass, in a potential overhaul designed to streamline the pricing structure for the two services and make them more enticing for consumers. And while Microsoft has stated that it has no plans to change up Xbox Live Gold, there's always the possibility that it's just waiting until the time is right to announce it officially.
So far, Microsoft has offered no hint as to what the next big Xbox Game Pass announcement will be and when or how it’ll be made, but with only three weeks until August is over, everyone should find out soon enough. Hopefully, if there is one, after all, it'll be better than the news that Project xCloud is being blocked from Apple devices.
