Bungie Addresses Destiny 2 Question on Armor Transmog in Beyond Light
One of the biggest feature announcements for Destiny 2 isn't related to the upcoming Beyond Light expansion. Before Beyond Light was even announced, Bungie announced that it would be expanding the multiplayer shooter's glamor/transmogrification feature. No release window for this feature was announced, nor was the detailed scope of the effort. The result is a lot of Destiny 2 fans left wondering what to do with their cool armor with a major expansion launch on the horizon.
It's reached a point where fans are pushing Bungie for a response on Reddit and it's gaining traction due to the importance of the issue. It's reached a point where Bungie event felt necessary to respond. Unfortunately, for both parties, there isn't an answer yet that either party is going to be happy with for the time being.
In a Reddit thread titled, "Bungie, all we want is a yes or no answer: will we be able to transmog armour from collections?" Bungie community manager Cozmo said as much as he was able. Cosmo says, "As soon as we can share a solid yes or no on this we will let you know." It's simply too early for Bungie to be able to know yet. "We don't want to make any promises that could result in players dismantling items until we are ready." Destiny 2 players will have to keep their transmog armor for a while longer.
Exactly what the problem is wasn't elaborated on. Obviously, it's something Bungie would like to provide Destiny 2 players. So perhaps it's a matter of time, of budget, or more likely a serious technical issue that Bungie can't program around without significant effort – if at all.
Until those questions are answered, Bungie is doing the right thing for the moment. It can't promise fans the feature, so it's not making that promise, but it does want Destiny 2 players to know that it's evaluating the situation. It's just going to take time, just like every aspect of video game development does.
The problem, unfortunately, is that Destiny 2 players (and video game fans, in general) are not particularly patient and are unlikely to empathize with Bungie. Perhaps they feel that they've waited long enough or perhaps they're just losing trust in Bungie overall. Regardless, frustrations won't improve this situation. Bungie will hopefully have a better answer in the months ahead, leading up to Beyond Light's launch in November.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
