Fable Job Listings Suggest Game is Still a Long Ways Away
Many fans are excited about the newest installment of the Fable series. The long awaited game was announced at the Xbox Series X showcase last month, and Playground Games is set to take over the series' development since the original studio that worked on the franchise is no longer around. Some fans had hoped that the game would come out when the Xbox Series X is released this holiday season. However, it seems that will not be the case.
Playground Games' main series up to this point has been Forza, which isn't very similar to the fantasy series. Because of this, the studio will need more people with different specialties than the company currently has working there. This may cause the new Fable game to take longer than fans originally anticipated.
While there have been rumors that the game has been in production for while, some signs point to the opposite. Playground Games is still looking to add positions to the Fable team such as Lead Audio Engineer, Lead AI Engineer, Lead Game Designer, Animation Director, and Lead Scriptwriter.
These are pretty significant roles in the creative process, so it seems that the team for the game is still forming. If this is the case, then the game is likely far behind the place in the production process that most fans assume it is. With this is mind, the game will probably not be coming out when the next-gen console releases like many were hoping.
While this is a disappointment to many Fable fans, this makes sense from what Playground Games has currently shown off of the game. Rumors of the game being created under this developer have been going around since early 2018, but so far the studio has only shown a short Fable teaser trailer that reveals nothing about the story or the gameplay. If more of the game was completed, the developer likely would have more concrete details to present to fans, so while is it unfortunate for those who have had their hearts set on the game's quick release, it does make sense based on what has been currently been shown to the public.
Even though this is disappointing, Fable fans can at least rest assured that the game's production is now underway. With Playground Games looking for around 40 new employees, hopefully, the positions will be able to be filled soon. From the looks of things, Fable won't be coming to the Xbox Series X or PC for a few years' time, but Microsoft will be excited to see its arrival.
Fable is currently in development for PC and Xbox Series X.
