Fall Guys Devs Reveal Upcoming Plans; Season 2 Pass Will Be Free
Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is perhaps the year's biggest surprise hit, and the hits keep coming. Season 2 of Fall Guys will arrive before fans know it with a medieval theme, new customs, new mini-games, and more. But what was announced at Gamescom is just the start of the new info, as the team behind Fall Guys have recently shared what else is on the way in season 2 and beyond.
Launching as a rather fully functional game, Fall Guys received high praise from critics and has since seen remarkable success in terms of sales, downloads, and Twitch streams. Even if Fall Guys released as a complete package, that doesn't mean that Mediatonic (the game's developer) is finished improving on it and updating it with content.
Kate Stark, co-host of the new Talk Guys show, interviewed the developers to ask them about upcoming content and features, and Kate was able to get some pretty great information. The most important thing may be a clarification on the next season pass. The season pass for season 2 will be free, just as the first one was
Having a free season pass is certainly a valiant move from Mediatonic. It would be easy, especially given the success of the game, to ask for $5-$10 for the pass, but just as Fall Guys triumphantly began as a free game with PlayStation Plus, the developers are leaning in on free content, which is obviously great for players.
Along with the season pass info, Mediatonic doubled down on anti-cheat work being a priority. While Fall Guys isn't to be taken as seriously as some online games, it's never fun to lose a game to a hacker. The developer has said they want the game to be 50% luck and 50% skill, which leaves no room or percentage for cheaters.
Mediatonic also is pushing hard for accessibility options, including colorblind settings. Also, it is working on features fans have been clamoring for. Custom servers are planned, so players can set up tournaments and sessions with friends. Cross-platform is also on the way for PC and PS4, which will set the stage for more of that when and if the eventual Xbox and Switch version of Fall Guys arrive.
Video game merch can be awesome, and Mediatonic wants to take advantage of the booming popularity of its game with clothes and other gear. It seems very natural to have a Fall Guy on a t-shirt.
Fall Guys is available now for PC and PS4.
